Description

A world-renowned Islay distillery, famous for its distinctive character of its heavily peated spirit and it has one of the longest-serving single malt brands. It was built in 1815 by Alexander and Donald Johnston and is today owned by Suntory Holdings through its Beam Suntory division.

Nose
An explosion of light fruits, peat, and ash. An earthiness with grasses and tropical fruits. Hints of an orchard fruit pie, with some vegetal and floral notes in the background. Phenols and sea spray, with underlying mature oak warmth and subtle sweetness.
Palate
Medium-density vegetal peat, getting more into the medicinal spectrum. Lots of green, fresh, tropical fruits like guava, pineapple, and citrus (lime and grapefruit). Honeyed fruits. Heavy notes of medicinal peat smoke, joined by peppercorn, cut grass, a hint of milky coffee, and vibrant orange oil balanced by sherried fruit.
Finish
Fog of smoke wrapped around fruits, peach or passionfruit, root beer, and mango. The sweet and tangy flavours outlast the smoke. Lasting bonfire embers and a few hints of honeyed barley, with lingering maritime salt.
