Description

Perpetuum was released in 2015 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the legendary Islay distillery. This high strength version was only available at the distillery to Ardbeg Committee members and is a blend of old and young whisky that had been matured in both bourbon and sherry casks. It offers a sophisticated blend of aged and young spirits, bringing forth a depth and complexity that speaks to its Islay roots. Ardbeg's chocolatey tastes are here as expected, but there is a complex background of pepper and smoky chilli.

Nose
Ripe pears and juicy berries alongside sweet oranges, enhanced by cinnamon spice and fresh thyme with subtle oakiness. Soot, wood ash, peat smoke, brine, sea salt, mussels, earthy moss, walnuts, lime zest, Cajun spices, vanilla, honey, and dark chocolate.
Palate
Delicious notes of dark chocolate and smoked pear, accented by honeyed figs and gentle nutmeg with a creamy, velvety texture. Smoke and ash, lemon/lime citrus, peppercorns, vanilla, chocolate, acrid smoke, burning charcoals, bitter sooty backbone, double espresso, fresh ground peppers, chili, ginger, and peat.
Finish
Long and lingering note of spiced apple, complemented by a delicate smokiness. Medium length, smoke and wood ash, vanilla, bitter dark chocolate, toffee, sweetness, peat, mellow and round, salty, bitter espresso, crushed coffee beans, soot, warming, chilled out, and a citrus note.
